Leala Simich is a Hollywood kid. She grew up in Los
Feliz and has been happy to make the East Side her home all her life.
The hair business is in her genes; her mother was a hairdresser, and
Leala spent so much time in the salon that she was doing nails
professionally by age 17. She attended makeup artist school and later
apprenticed for two years at an upscale salon. "I take a
holistic approach to hair," Leala says. "I like to take in the body
stature, the head and face shape, the hair texture and the client's
lifestyle to create something they can comfortably wear without doing
their hair for two hours in the morning. I believe in doing the cut and color so I can create an overall vision."
Because of this approach, it's
not unusual to see Leala consulting with a client for a good while
before she starts a cut or color job. "I always make sure I'm on the
same page with a client." Leala has also been known to do a pretty mean
updo from funky to Cinderella looks. She loves the artistry of doing hair,
especially creating forms and styles for special events.
