If You Can't Tell Your Hairdresser, Who Can You Tell?

"It's a time-honored tradition to tell your hairdresser things you might not ordinarily share with a stranger," said L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina. Molina, pictured here with MoDem Salon owner Myrna Marin, joined City Council President Eric Garcetti and City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo at the salon recently to kick off the new "Cut It Out" national campaign against domestic violence.

Salon employees are in a unique position to target this crime, which is on the rise. Marin, whose own family has been touched by domestic violence, was moved to join the national network of salons and train her staff to provide resources to women who suffer abuse.

The "Cut It Out" campaign builds public awareness and arms salon professionals with information to recognize the warning signs of domestic abuse so they can safely refer clients to assistance.

"If we've learned one thing about domestic violence, it's that silence kills," said Eric Garcetti, pictured here with Marin and Rocky Delgadillo. The "Cut It Out" campaign can save lives by doing its work where silence doesn't stand a chance."
